Getting to know Cathy

q. How did you arrive at MORE? What path brought you to start a real estate firm?

My entire life brought me here. I grew up in an entrepreneurial family – my dad owned his own business from the time I was in 2nd grade. When I was in 7th grade my dad and step-mom earned their Florida real estate license and my dad also had his General Contractor’s license. I’ve seen it all and was “forced” to participate when I was a kid – my dad built commercial buildings, single family homes, churches, and multi-million dollar mansions on Jupiter Island in South Florida. I’ve had to help with construction cleaning, open houses, stuffing the mailboxes at the local realtor association and be dad’s #1 helper, which is what he told everyone when I tagged along with him. I’m no stranger to a construction site and a real estate office. My step mom was a General Manager for a real estate firm in South Florida and I’d go into the office with her on the weekends, sit at her desk and pretend that it was my business. Then when I was in college I had the opportunity to work in several of her offices providing administrative support, clean up and set up systems, and training of new administrative support. After college I spent many years in healthcare administration developing my ability to provide high level service with accuracy, care, and professionalism. During that tenure I owned my own healthcare business, which I built from the ground up. Then I married my high school sweetheart who had a background in Land Development. I truly wanted to build a business with him. However, I couldn’t quite figure out how to join healthcare and land development. A late in life pregnancy and frustration with building someone else’s empire cause me to take a break from healthcare. During that break my husband and I were exploring a business opportunity that prompted me to get my real estate license. The rest is history.

q. What are you known for professionally? What do you have a knack for?

Systems. I am over the top organized. I can see the big picture. I ask good questions to gain a high level perspective of what is needed to realize the desired goal, and then I implement. My colleagues would say I am focused and determined. I force myself to keep on going whether I want to or not – when I have a goal I won’t stop until I reach it.

q. What’s the one problem you are best at solving for your clients?

Helping them understand what they really want and need. It goes back to asking good questions and listening. My clients love the attention and time I give them. They see me as thorough and thinking of all the details. My real estate group has been described as a well-oiled machine.

q. Who have you worked with in the past? And what have you done for them?

Good grief – let me know if you have any questions about this or I can give you my resume!

q. What are you most passionate about professionally?

Being the best at what I do. I desire to master the art of representing buyers and sellers so consumers see the value that I and my team bring so there is no choice other than to hire us to help them meet their real estate needs. I am most excited about the fact that the sky is the limit in real estate – that I can build this as big as I can dream. I’m excited about building something that is a systems machine that others want to emulate. I’m also really excited about how much I’ve grown personally and they impact that everything I’ve learned and will learn will be to the benefit of my son.

q. What are you passionate about personally? What do you really enjoy? What can’t you stop talking about?

My husband, son and puppies! I enjoy having a glass of wine with my husband on our back patio and dreaming about our future. I enjoy tickling my son and kissing his nose. I look at them and can’t believe this is my life. I married the love of my life and had a son with him. I’m still amazed this happened to me. What more could I ask for?

q. What’s your favorite way to spend a Sunday afternoon?

At my desk at home working – LOL! I’m probably washing clothes, grocery shopping, cleaning my house, etc. I’m crazy obsessed with order, “a place for everything and everything in its place.” So most of my weekend is spent doing that kind of stuff. Other than that I love to be with my family – Friday nights enjoying one of our favorite pizza places and watching a movie snuggled in bed with my boys and the puppies, Saturday morning at the Flea Market, Sunday morning at church, a drive with the top down on the convertible, shopping for stuff to decorate the house, baking chocolate chip cookies and reading the latest issue of Southern Living!

q. How long have you been doing what you do?

Well, I’ve had my real estate license for 5 years but doing what I do professionally – building systems that run like clockwork so everything is done as is expected – 30 years, but don’t tell anyone I’m that old! HA!

q. Where did you grow up and why aren’t you there now?

Palm Beach County, Florida – and I’m not there now because I married my high school sweetheart and prayed that God would give us a new life together somewhere fresh. God opened the door very widely to Raleigh, NC ten years ago. This feels like home more than South Florida ever did because the people are kind, the pace is slower, I love the seasons and truth be told…if I believed in reincarnation, I was Scarlett O’Hara in another life and I’ve just come home to the south!

q. Any volunteer activities you’re crazy about?

No – I’m so obsessed with building businesses and successful systems to run them that, that has always consumed all my time. I have signed up to volunteer at my son’s school this year and I’m looking forward to getting to know other parents and help build financial resources for a great school!

q. Any nonprofits you love, & why?

I love Cause for Paws and the NC Dachshund Rescue because I love four legged fur babies!

q. What would be impossible for you to give up?

Diet Pepsi – LOL, my husband, my son, my salvation, my determination, my strong personality.

q. How do you want to be remembered?

As someone who laughed a lot!

q. Anything else you’d like to tell people about yourself?

I never give up.
